New PSTVA Photo Album

The new PSTV Alumni Photo Album is now online. This new album, hosted by Google's Picasa Web Albums, has many new features such as:
  • Customizable Thumbnail Sizes
  • Previous/Next Buttons with Preloading
  • Automated Slideshows
  • Zoom and Pan (for larger images)
  • Album Linking (for other Picasa Web Album users)
  • Up to 250 megs of photo disk space
  • RSS

The most important feature of this new album is the reliability that Google will maintain the software and hardware, ensuring that we shouldn't lose our album again. In January a simple server glitch caused us to lose our original photo album, although all the photos were able to be recovered.

One notable downside of using Picasa Web Albums for our photos is that it can not be fully embedded within the PSTV Alumni website, as the last album was. Because of this, navigation menu links will load the album in a new window/tab (Internet Explorer only).

As mentioned earlier, no photos were lost when we lost our original photo album, but data such as captions were lost. Most photos have been re-captioned but we need your help to re-identify some other photos. Please browse through the albums and let us know if you notice any mistakes. Especially check out the Class Photos album, where we couldn't positively identify the year and semester of nearly half of the photos. And we also need somebody who works at WXXA to take a look at the Alumni album to make sure the right names were put with the right faces.

As always, please contact me if you have new photos to add to the PSTV Alumni Photo Album.

Plattsburgh Journalism Listserv established

I receieved the following message from Plattsburgh Journalism Professor Shawn Murhpy today. Many of you probably got the same thing, but just in case you didn't, here you go...
Hello.

If you haven't already signed up for the new Journalism Listserv, please take a moment to do so.

In case you haven't heard, a new Listserv has been created for the benefit of you -- SUNY Plattsburgh journalism alumni or PSU graduates who are working in a journalistic field. It was created so that you can share information with your peers about professional successes, personal milestones, job or internship openings, or whatever.

This Listserv is yours to use as a central networking tool with generations of Plattsburgh's journalism alumni. In less than a month, 60 grads have registered for this free service; yet I’d like far more of you to utilize this valuable networking tool.

Therefore, if you have not already done so, please sign up today at:

http://lists.plattsburgh.edu/mailman/listinfo/journalism-alumni

When you do, please be sure to register using your full name. Thank you.

Respectfully,

Shawn W. Murphy
Associate Professor of Journalism, Faculty Advisor to Cardinal Points
Listserv Moderator
